Field Trips, and Sports, and After School Program; Oh My!

Hello Q-Nation!

Above you will see an amazing event we had this week.

On Tuesday, 2/4 students took a Field Trip to Crawford's "Hawaiian Luau" Social Gathering.

We took 18 students from the special education program by MTS bus and trolley. We joined several other schools such as Patrick Henry, San Diego High and Crawford. Students practiced bus navigation and safety in the community skills. At the dance, Serra students met new friends and visited with old friends, saw previous teachers/therapists, practiced purchasing skills, and had a blast dancing to the student DJs. All in all a very fun and positive learning experience!

We have sports tonight! Got Friday Night Plans?

The next basketball games will be held Friday (2/7) at Scripps Ranch at 7:30 and Saturday (2/8) against Westview at Serra at 7:00- so be sure to come to their games to watch our athletes! Go Serra Q’s!!

The SHS Boys Soccer Booster Club has got you covered.  The Boys’ Final Home Game of the season is at 6pm TONIGHT!  Attendance is FREE, and we will be celebrating our Seniors prior to the game.  Please consider coming out to support them and the team.  After the game, join us at Round Table Pizza for dinner where 15% of your order will go directly to Boys Soccer!  Simply mention the team and we will get credit for your purchase.  Or, print the flyer below and bring it with you.  Lastly, we would appreciate it if you would spread the word.  Thank you for your support!

Need Tutoring? and After School Program is BACK!!!!!

Tutoring will start THIS Monday after school and then more than tutoring will begin as soon as we are ready. Many students came to me sad about the loss of the after-school program after the grant was not approved through the district. I heard them and we are back! RYLA Announcement!!Attention Juniors who are interested in a fantastic leadership opportunity. Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, or “RYLA,” is a program that originated with Rotary International and has since been specifically designed by Rotary District 5340 for students in San Diego and Imperial counties. RYLA encourages servant leadership in youth by recognizing and rewarding deserving 11th grade students who are chosen to attend RYLA as an "award" for their past and present leadership and service activities. These select young people attend an all-expense-paid three day camp where they are inspired by a diverse group of exceptional speakers, make life-long friends through fellowship activities, and discuss the ethical and social issues of today. These activities are conducted in an atmosphere of trust and respect. The result is that these students return to their schools and communities motivated to take on additional leadership roles and to find additional ways to serve. If your student is interested they should apply here: https://www.ryla5340.org/how-to-apply Applications are due by February 2nd Serra High School's Sponsoring Rotary Club is Kearny Mesa Club. In addition to applying online, students should print their application and turn into Mr. Stewart in the counseling office before the February 2nd deadline. Any questions regarding this opportunity should be sent to Mr. Stewart at nstewart2@sandi.net Scholarships!
