Happy Friday--We made it!

Updated: Sep 11, 2020

Dear Serra Community,

We had an amazing week this week. Most students were able to log on and in addition if they couldn't we were able to triage and get them connected and we started our learning. We are looking forward to being even better next week now that we have most kinks worked out. We have new updates in this blog but first, in order to better serve you and your students needs, we have created a "new day" we like to call T.C.O.B. or Taking Care of Business. Here it is:

To better serve you :

Wednesdays until January or return to school (whichever comes first) :

OFFICE: Wednesdays: Open 9-12 (not 1--this is a correction from 2 hours ago) for any office needs; any student or parent

BOOKS AND COMPUTER NEEDS: Wednesdays: 1-4pm (need a book, need to return a book, have a tech issue)--Any students can come or parent

LOTS of students have last years textbooks. Please return them as soon as you can because we need them to give to other students. Thanks!

College Course are finalized so you can come Wednesday to get your books and if you got the wrong one please return it.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: SEPTEMBER 24TH, 2020 FROM 5:30-6:30

DETAILS COMING NEXT WEEK

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS:

We value and know that clubs are incredibly important during school. We also know they are even more important during DISTANCE LEANING LIVE. We are working on a plan with SDUSD in order for the clubs in our district to be organized and streamlined. It's not as easy as setting a date and time to meet. You have to be officially registered as a club, you at times have to raise money, and you have to have an advisor. All of this is complicated with being online only. As soon as we are able to hold clubs and do it properly we will. This is a HUGE thing for our students! We will also do a CLUB RUSH for people who haven't been in clubs and might be interested in join no matter what grade. Please be patient but know we are working on it.

SCHOOL SITE GOVERNANCE AND SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL: LAST CHANCE

We are in need of several people for each of these committees:

Governance--Deals with instructional issues on campus--We need 2 parents and 2 students

SSC--Finances of the campus--We need 1 parent and 1 student

**We want as many different students and parents as possible so please sign up for one if possible****

You have until September 14th MONDAY to fill it out and elections will start September 18th.

SCHEDULE AND SUPPORT FOR NOW AND LATER:

We understand that any schedule any of the high school's come with challenges during Distance Learning LIVE. I anticipated the gaps that many of you are communicating to us.

FALL RESOURCES:****Coming Attraction*****

In order to better serve you we will be creating a resources guide for certain courses so that if you want to supplement your child's learning with more, you can do so. Some of you may be like "No way! I have enough already!" and other might be like "Yes! I need more" this is just a resource for you. If you have enough ignore it and if you don't, then use it. It will be coming out in the next few weeks and will be based on this semesters courses. For next semester see below:

SPRING BOOTCAMP SCHEDULE***COMING but a little while away*****

We will be holding a supplementary BOOT CAMP Schedule for math, world language, AP, and others in the Spring. Don't worry! We understand you might be stressed and we aren't just going to leave you with no support. However that wont start until February but we will deliver a plan for you!

FEEDBACK:

We had a really great suggestion from a parent about a feedback survey and we think this is a great idea! We want to hear how amazing something went, a teacher that had a great lesson, an experience that went great, or a way we can improve or something that needs to be fixed. We are going to put this in the blog every week and review it weekly as well so we can celebrate our staff and accomplishments but also fix issues that may be occurring.

SENIOR CLASS OF 2021 BOOSTERS:

COUNSELING:

We have a counseling newsletter we are going to start publishing very soon. Right now just go on Wednesday and get books during the 1-4pm timeframe.

Food Distribution:

Food Distribution is still happening; in case you are in need:

Athletic Eligibility:

THERE WILL BE TWO ATHLETIC MEETINGS IN LATE OCTOBER TO ADDRESS ATHLETICS--Mr. Pisapia has no more information than I do; which is none. We chose late October so we will have information for you rather than have a meeting now and it not be beneficial.

GRADING PERIODS:

SAT and PSAT:

We are offering the SAT hopefully in October and there is currently no plan to offer PSATS. SAT scores are waived by most colleges in California for the next several year.

SENIOR PORTRAITS: this already went out but we know people missed it.

LIFETOUCH:

We are scheduling appointments for Senior Portraits at our San Diego location.

We can help accommodate any of your students with an appointment.   You can call 858.935.6969 Monday-Friday 9AM-3PM to speak with our Customer Service
