Happy Halloween, Grading Period is over!

Happy Friday Serra High!

We had a great week last week. I went in a visited many classrooms and met with groups of students and it was so amazing to see all of them and they were happy to see us as well. We miss them so much! In addition we had two Athletics Meetings which had a ton of information in them and things are changing by the minute. Please remember you can drop off items like athletic physicals and really anything to the office on Wednesdays from 9-12.

Absences

Lastly, a gentle reminder again---your students can not call or email themselves out sick. You have to do it. Please do not ask them to do it as it has to be you.

Grading Policy:

SDUSD adopted an anti-racist grading policy. This policy is to be rolled out over the next 2 years. Serra High School already had this policy and we are the only one in Unified to do so at this point. We did this work 2 years ago after extensive research and professional development. Please refer to the student handbook for the policy. Most questions are around late work. Opportunities for redemption and remediation have always been a part of our policy. However there are deadlines. Those deadlines are before report periods. You can not in June say you would like to do assignments from October as you have already been issued a grade at the semester. Please follow the policy that is in the handbook. Nothing based on what the district has adopted changes our policy. It does however affect almost every other school in SDUSD because they are not doing what we have.

REOPENING OF SCHOOL:

There is so much going on and being reported about this. Unless I know what is being reported is fact, I am not going to be addressing it. When I have information, you will have it. COVID has made things so difficult for all of us but I honestly can't guarantee (and neither did the district) that we will actually open on January 25. It was as "long as COVID doesn't interfere." It very well may. The Board and the District are doing everything in their power to make the best decisions for us and hope that January 25 will indeed happen but we are still in a place of not knowing whats to come.

COUNSELING:
