Physics is Dominating, Events, and Another Great Week!

Hello Rattler Nation!

Another week in the books. Students were busy in classes doing amazing things. Mr. Neufeld's Physics class built a whole town and was studying how power worked in a town and had students talk and try to get their towns up and running and then what happens when a say "freeze" comes to town or another disaster. All the students were engaged and really could talk about the learning. It was amazing to watch.

We had great turnouts at our parent night the slides are below. Tonight and this weekend, we have football at Scripps, a Field Hockey Tournament, and a Middle School Basketball program for SDUSD!

ELEVATED, which is a project of SAY San Diego and funded by the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency, spent the summer months developing a youth presentation on underage drinking prevention but through a positive social norms lens.a SAY San Diego project Why is this prevention approach critical? In the case of underage alcohol use, research has found that youth generally greatly overestimate alcohol and drug use among their peers. This perception could impact a youth’s perception and behavior regarding alcohol. So rather than focusing on teens who are using alcohol and drugs, the positive social norms approach focuses on teens who are not. In other words, it’s what youth are doing right rather than what they are doing wrong.

Earlier this month, ELEVATED was scheduled to present this topic to other youth at MADD’s annual Teen Influencer Summit. Unfortunately, the summit had to be postponed but that didn’t stop ELEVATED members from wanting to reach their peers. They created a “How To” video hoping that other youth across San Diego can adopt a positive social norms approach into their substance abuse prevention efforts at their school or community. If you would like to contact ELEVATED for a youth presentation on this topic, please get in touch with the youth ally, Stacy Chiles, at schiles@saysandiego.org.

We hope you enjoy the video ELEVATED created!

Booster Clubs are created by each "Class Of" to raise funds to create unforgettable experiences for your students. Items include caps for graduation, prom ticket prices lowered, organizing Grad Night, and having fundraisers to pull this off. They work very hard and need your support. Please go to your student's "Class Of" website and join the registry to stay up to date on all things going on with your student's graduating class.
