Serra Celebrates the Arts this week and next!

Do you know we have a Instagram and Facebook?????? You do now! Follow all things SHS:Facebook: @serrahighschool and Instagram: @juniperoshs

Hello Conquistador Nation!

What great week we had. Thunder and Lightning, oh my!!!!! We went into a lot of classrooms this week and we also had an amazing staff professional development. More on this a little later in our instructional spotlight. More importantly is our school play, "Fly by Night." If you haven't seen a school play here you need to see the work these students put into this....so amazing. Our VAPA department (music and drama) have worked so hard! Opening night is tonight at 7pm and will also be tomorrow at 7pm and then next weekend as well.

School play: “Fly by Night” December 6-8 at 7 pm in Theater and Dec 13-15: COME!!!!!!In this darkly comic rock-fable, a melancholy sandwich maker's humdrum life is intersected by two entrancing sisters. A sweeping ode to young love set against the backdrop of the northeast blackout of 1965, Fly By Night is a tale about making your way and discovering hope in a world beset by darkness.

Also we have NEW Serra gear! Get it right here!

FIRST = Check out this new store for Serra gear.  It supports the Serra Foundation, which in turn supports us.  It’s a win-win.  (Sidenote:  The women’s gear runs very small.)

California Scholarship Federation (CSF) Meeting:WHAT IS CSF? DOES MY STUDENT QUALIFY? WHAT IS THIS MEETING?

Mrs. Spears in Room 810 will have blank applications, scholarship information, and discuss procedures for the Spring. See you then.

AND NOW YOU KNOW! Instruction Spotlight!:

Questions we have begun about grading and policies surrounding grading.......this is a BIG topic!!!!:

Questions for Reflection

If someone were learning to ride a bike and learned to ride it on the 10th try, what grade would they get?  (Respond to this email with your answer to get a bike.  Just kidding.  You can have a bag of chips.) Are the assignments and in-class activities too easy for my students?  How recently have I assessed my students’ learning and adjusted my instruction and assignments to provide challenging lessons?

We are working towards an equitable school wide competency based grading policy and it starts with these questions!

Also we have a new rockstar for the month of November: It's no coincidence that her rock at the beginning of the year said "FUN." Students in Mrs. Garnier's class are always having fun, and so is she. Mrs. Garnier acts out vocabulary and phrases to help her students make Spanish come alive. Her students can also be seen at the front of the classroom doing the same. Students clap for each other and laugh throughout the period. Her room is colorful and inviting and students enjoy their learning experience. Keep up the great work, Theresa Garnier!!!!!

Booster Information--Class of 2019: At our recent meeting we talked about how we can support one another, making the Class of 2019's last year at Serra the best year.
