All people need to pay at the door (yes...even if you have an ASB sticker--CIF does not honor these during playoffs); please come ready to root on your football team!

This week we hosted our Class of 2023 students and gave them a sneak peek of all things Serra! Check out the video.

AND NOW YOU KNOW!

Instruction Spotlight!:

Remember Blog 1???? We started this year making rocks with our "one word". The one thing we were as educators going to practice and commit to. We decided based on that to award a "rock-star" of the month. October's was easy! Congrats Richard Babcock!

5 in 5 Focus Area - Assessing Students for Learning, Standard 5.1

In our Wednesday meeting, we had a lot going on.  First, Liz and Nicholas facilitated mirror-image book clubs; all participated in a collaborative learning routine called “Text Graffiti.” We hoped staff deepened your learning with the text and experienced an instructional strategy that is adaptable to their classroom.  One thing that Mrs. Ward pointed out in her group is that it is important to find opportunities to get students up and moving around--this activity lends itself well to that. We also discussed Assessment and what it means to assess and ideas and strategies to assess things like "listening and speaking" which is a standard but can be hard to quantify. It was a very productive work session!

Construction: Look at what we are up to!

Athletics:

Kalea Gurfield, who was not seeded, played her heart out!  She made it to the third round, where she beat the #6 seed from Patrick Henry.  She went on to the quarter-finals, where she beat the #3 seed from Mira Mesa.  In the semi-finals, she beat the #2 seed from Patrick Henry!  When she got to the finals, she lost to an incredible tournament player.  Overall, she ended up as the #2 player in Eastern League!!  She made me very proud and she also gets to go to CIF next week.

Winter Sports Meeting: Highly Recommended! November 15th at 6pm in the GYM!

A great way to spend your evenings is with SHS Athletics and our amazing events. There are so many that we have our own website devoted to just this topic. Please reference this link which can also be found on our webpage.http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/serra-conquistadors-(san-diego,ca)/calendar.htm

Reminder: Athletics is a privilege not a right. An athletes' first step if they are acting in a manner unbecoming of Serra is that Athletics is taken away for the season! A sports physical dated after June 4, 2018 must also be turned into the front office with the confirmation form from the website. To get cleared for athletics go to www.athleticclearance.com

We had Principal's Coffee and we went and toured Math and Science classrooms. We talked about what's working and what isn't, as Serra High School will be focusing on Math this year. Parents were very excited to see instruction! We will be doing this as part of our coffee from now on! Booster Information--Class of 2019: At our recent meeting we talked about how we can support one another, making the Class of 2019's last year at Serra the best year. We decided to divide and conquer with SHS footing the bill for Graduation at USD and Boosters supporting events along the way including GRAD Night. We are so grateful to the Boosters. SERRA HS SENIOR CLASS OF 2019: Dear Parents of Graduating Seniors, As we begin our 2018-2019 school year, the Serra Senior Parent Booster Club will be raising funds for this year’s senior class activities which include events such as Grad Night, Senior Luncheon and Graduation. Help us reach our fundraising goals for these events by making a tax- deductible donation of $50-100.00. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Donations can either be made online using this link, squareup.com/store/serra-senior-parent-boosters, or you can write a check payable to Serra Senior Parent Boosters. If using the online square account through the above noted link, you will be able to use your credit card. If you prefer to write a check, please drop your check off in the front office. Please address the envelope, “ Class of 2019,” and write that in the memo of the check as well to avoid any confusion with the Class of 2021 Boosters which is also collecting money. As parents of seniors, we are looking forward to a fun and exciting year; your support will be greatly appreciated.Thank you very much!
