Week 1 Success!



Dear SHS Family,

WOW! Week 1 was an amazing success! We had every child online and working in some capacity. We also have had a stream of positive emails for our organization and how it is working for all different types of students! We are glad that our hard work over the past 3 weeks is working! I think it is safe to assume that based on what we are seeing on TV the chances of us returning this year (by June) is not going to happen. I want you to know we are all in this together and please reach out to us if you see support. This is a partnership! REFUNDS?????

Im getting many inquiries about refunds. Here are some answers!!!! They are being mailed to the address on file in PowerSchool. If your address is wrong please contact gpalacio@sandi.net to get it fixed before mailing.

WELLNESS CENTER!--NEED SUPPORT? WE ARE HERE FOR FAMILIES AND STUDENTS!

Our District Wellness Team has some exciting news that we wanted to share with you. The Wellness Center Coordinators will be holding weekly virtual office hours starting next week. 

Zoom Office Hours:

The purpose of holding office hours is to create an inclusive, consistent, and safe environment for the Wellness Center Coordinator to connect with Serra’s students.

  • This is only a casual well-being check-in

  • We will be utilizing the waiting room & password tools on Zoom

  • This is not a therapy session

MIRAMAR COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOR SENIORS CLASS OF 2020

Zoom Session to receive New Student information and be one step closer to Miramar College!

About this Event 

Join us in this Zoom session for new student information, including information about how you can attend college for free with our San Diego Promise program.

The session will be led by one of our Miramar counselors that can answer your questions and guide you to helpful resources.

**Please plan accordingly as this Zoom session will last approximately 1.5 hours**

To register for this Zoom session, students must first:

  • Have completed a Miramar College application

  • Have their 10 digit student college ID number (sent via email after application completion)

  • If you haven't applied, please create a CCCApply account and complete the Miramar College application here.

**By attending this session, you will satisfy the orientation requirement in order to meet with a counselor and move on to enroll and pay for classes.**

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS PLANNING ON TAKING A MIRAMAR COLLEGE COURSE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR @ SERRA YES---CLASS OF 2021 AND 2022!


Because of the current school closure, we along with Miramar College were unable to hold our CCAP Dual Enrollment Parent/Student Information Meetings that were scheduled for the evenings of March 16th & 18th. Attendance to one of these meetings were a requirement for your student to take a Miramar College course while at Serra High School next year.


We’ve worked very closely with Miramar College and the San Diego Community College District to provide the information and resources you would’ve received at these meetings. In lieu of these meetings you are required to complete the steps in the following link:

Please Note:

ALL student's and parent/guardians are required to watch the powerpoint and video presentations in Step 1.

- If you are a new college course student you need to complete all the steps that follow.

- If you already have a Miramar student ID# after completing Step 1 you can go to Step 4 and complete the steps that follow.

TRANSCRIPTS: I’m getting many requests for transcripts.  Any senior can make that request online on the Serra Counseling website or by clicking HERE

FOUNDATION/PTA SCHOLARSHIPS--AVAILABLE!!!

2020 Senior Scholarships: Every  year Serra Foundation is proud to award 13 scholarships to deserving seniors.  Awards range from $500 (1), $250 (2), to $100 (10).  Due to Covid-19 the process will be a little different this year.  To be considered for this year’s scholarship program, please click here:

Tierrasanta Junior Women's Club (TJWC) Scholarships

The Tierrasanta Junior Women’s Club (TJWC) would like to award six scholarships, in the amount of $1,000 each to young ladies graduating from Serra High in June, 2020. Again, we would like two of the $1,000 awards made to students who intend to continue their education by enrolling in a trade school, and four $1,000 awards should be designated for individuals who will be continuing on to a four-year university or community college. Applicants must meet the following requirements: ¨ Awards will be made to female students. ¨ For those individuals continuing on to a University or Community College, a minimum 3.0 GPA is required. ¨ No minimum GPA is required for Trade School. ¨ Must demonstrate an interest in community service/issues. ¨ We would prefer a person who is willing to “get involved”, preferably with a history of volunteering. ¨ Awardees should be in most need of financial assistance. ¨ TJWC would choose to award an individual who is dedicated, determined and exhibits all the qualities needed to succeed but may have been “overlooked” in the awards process. We are thinking of the “hidden” gem who deserves and would benefit the most from the recognition and a little financial help from her community. Kiwanis Foundation of Tierrasanta Scholarships

The Kiwanis Foundation of Tierrasanta is pleased to announce that it will again be awarding the Vernon D. Bowman, Thomas G. Cherniss and George V. Paluso Scholarships at the end of the 2020 school year to graduating seniors of Serra High School. These scholarships are awarded annually to students who best exemplify Kiwanis ideals that were fostered by these three respected Kiwanis Club members and residents of Tierrasanta. Scholarships are based on a student’s demonstration of academic success, a strong record of community service, leadership and altruistic devotion to the welfare of fellow students. In addition to the general criteria, athletic participation and leadership is a prerequisite for the Paluso scholarship.

Applicants must be 2020 graduating seniors from Serra High School who will be pursuing an associate or bachelor level degree, or higher education that will qualify the applicant for entry into a business, profession or trade. Scholarship applications will be reviewed by a scholarship committee of the Kiwanis Foundation of Tierrasanta, where the selections will be made.

Selections for scholarship awards will be based upon the depth of community service, participation in Serra High School activities, including athletics (required for the Paluso scholarship), and scholastic achievement. Applicants will be required to:

· document their school and community activities and leadership

· submit an official transcript

· write a reflective essay regarding their activities, and

· submit a letter of recommendation.

Students need only submit one application to be considered for all three scholarships listed below:

· Vernon D. Bowman scholarship: payable in annual installments over four years

· Thomas G. Cherniss scholarship: a one-time scholarship payment

· George V. Paluso scholarship: a one-time scholarship payment

Due to the impact of COVID-19 on San Diego schools, applications are available immediately, via email – if you are interested in applying for one of the three above scholarships, please email bobrichards44@gmail.com and the application package will be emailed back to you. All applications must be returned via email to Bob Richards at the above email address by midnight on May 8, 2020 in order to remain eligible. Students will be notified of their selection by mid-May and awards will either be presented at Awards Night or mailed directly to the students at their home if Awards Night is canceled.
