What You Need To Know

Happy FRIDAY Serra High!

We have a lot to let you know about! Please read this blog in its entirety. We had a great set of meeting for the incoming Class of 2025! So exciting to see all of them and get them the important information they need!

First, we have no school on Monday. Please take this time to reflect on why we have the day off and spend time with those that you care about in a COVID safe way.

Second, this is finals week next week and teachers will be communicating to their classes what to expect for their course.

Third, we also will be doing book return and distribution next week and PSATS this week.

Fourth, if you have not started scholarships you absolutely need to now. Do not wait! Go to the SHS webpage and look under Counseling--there are tons and they aren't all for seniors!

Athletics:

Wondering whats going on with school reopening and sports? Here is an update:

CIF Athletic Team Update The following information was sent out by CIF San Diego Section. Students interested in the sports starting in the month of February please make sure you have completed all forms online and a sports physical. Directions can be found at www.goconquistadors.com. You must be cleared by the school in order to participate in CIF Athletics. The CIF San Diego Section has made the difficult decision to move the sport of Swim & Dive into our Season 1 schedule. This move was made based upon its Purple Tier Assignment that was provided with the updated Youth Sports Guidance released back on December 14, 2020. With Swim & Dive being assigned to the Purple Tier, and both Boys' & Girls' Water Polo being assigned to the Orange Tier, CIF San Diego Section has selected the date of Monday, February 1, 2021 as the official date to begin practices for the permissible, Purple Tier sports scheduled in Season 1 (Cross Country and Swim & Dive). The current guidance does not permit any competitions while a region is under the "Stay at Home" order.

  • Field Hockey would be able to begin their season once the Southern California region is off the "Stay at Home" order yet continues in the Purple Tier.

  • Football would be able to begin their season once the Southern California region is in the Red Tier. No competition until Orange Tier.

  • Badminton would be able to begin their season once the Southern California region is in the Red Tier. No indoor practices until state allows.

  • Girls' Golf: February 8th

  • Boys' Golf: February 15th

  • Boys' & Girls' Co-Ed Tennis: February 15th (date moved up from February 22nd)

  • Track & Field: February 15th (March 13th first competition at the earliest)

  • Red Tier Sports (Baseball, Girls' Lacrosse, Softball): Start Date of March 13th, contingent upon our counties remaining out of the "Stay at Home" order for the entire Southern California region.

Orange Tier Sports (Boys' Lacrosse, Boy's & Girls' Soccer, Boys' Volleyball*, Boys' & Girls' Water Polo):

  • Boys' & Girls' Soccer: Scheduled start date of February 22nd. CIF-SDS will officially open their seasons once the county of residence reaches the Red Tier Level.

  • Boys' Lacrosse, Boys' Volleyball, Boys' & Girls' Water Polo: Scheduled start date of March 13th, CIF- SDS will officially open their seasons once the county of residence reaches the Red Tier Level.

  • Scheduled start date of March 13th. CIF-SDS will officially open their seasons once the county of residence reaches the Orange Tier Level. *Scheduled end date for Boys' Volleyball is currently under review.

YELLOW TIER Sports (Basketball Wrestling)

  • Boys' & Girls' Basketball and Wrestling start date will be when the Southern California region reaches the Orange Tier Level. No competition until the region enters into the Yellow Tier

Senior Boosters:

If you have driven on Santo past Serra, you may have noticed the banner that we hung supporting our Serra Seniors! We are inviting parents, families and the community to get creative and make posters to add to the fence! Individual families (no gatherings please) can put up posters or you can get your poster to Rita Clovis and she will organize and hang them up. Laminated posters are encouraged, so that they will endure the elements. Let's show our seniors we are rooting for them as they come into the home stretch of high school! Email serra2021boosters@gmail.com if you have questions or would like your poster put up.

Lastly, we are finalizing a few other ways that we, Serra High, and the community, can support our seniors. Stay tuned! Thank you to everyone who has presented ideas. We are thinking "outside of the box!".

Class of 2021: Information will be coming out on a regular basis and usually Dr. Renfree puts it towards to the top her blog. However information can always be found here if not in the main blog section.
